Key Features of the Xtracycle Stoker 24″ Wheeled Longtail Cargo Bike
Obviously the 24″ Wheels
In a departure from the smaller rear wheel of the Xtracycle Classic and Swoop Edgerunner frames, the Stoker introduces two 24” wheels with fatter tires for increased fun-ability on any surface.
Bigger Rear Wheel & Tire = More Comfortable
One of my main only complaints on the movement to smaller cargo bike wheels is that smaller wheels are stiffer and maybe less comfortable for the riders over that wheel. A year ago during a test of a Benno Boost E, without knowing it, my 3-year-old preferred the ride due to the bigger wheel or because “it didn’t hurt her bottom”.
Higher Rear Derailleur Clearance
If you have read any of my online discussions about the 20″ rear wheeled cargo bikes, my 2nd biggest gripe is how close the rear derailleur is to the ground, sticks, curbs, and so forth. Most cargo bikes don’t have replaceable derailleur hangers (don’t ask me why..) so I’m a bit more protective of rear derailleurs on these smaller wheeled bikes. 24″ wheels mean it brings that rear derailleur away from the ground by hopefully 2-3” since the tire is slightly fatter too
Also available with the Performance CX or Speed Bosch motor options & 1 or 2 batteries. See below for more difference between the Stoker and eStoker
Xtracycle Part Compatible
If you already have Xtracycle parts than they are interchangeable with this bike.
One Size Frame
Unlike the Surly Big Easy, Xtracycle changes out their seatpost and stem to fit people differently instead of unique frame sizes. This makes life much easier on a bike shop but also means that handling may change between a size small, medium, large stem.
