I strongly endorse this! I register my bike with the manufacturer (Tern in this instance for my most recent bikes), and list it with Bike Index. I also register it with my local police department (a service offered in some communities, check yours). My PD issues a free numbered registration sticker. All done within a day of bringing a new bike home. I don’t begin to ride my new bike until that’s done.
Registering with the manufacturer can provide these benefits: Easier filing of warranty claims. Notifications from manufacturer of model recalls that may affect you. Establishing your ownership for bike recovery, for another “layer” of protection in case of bike theft.
