Cargo Bike Chain Maintenance

In this week's Bike Tip Tuesday video I'm going over the basics of good bike chain maintenance, specifically for cargo bike chain maintenance. Cargo bike chains see some of the most stress possible due to torque and carrying weight, even more so with an electric assist motor thrown into the mix.

In this video, I'm reviewing:
Cleaning and lubing your cargo bike chain
When to use a chain cleaner like the Park Cyclone Scrubber
Why a chain wear tool is so important and how to use it

Hi Arleigh,

I just stumbled upon your YouTube channel today. I wasn’t sure how to submit a question there, which brought me to here.

I have a Shimano Hyper SpinFit 700c men’s bike
Frame: 700c lightweight aluminum frame
Speeds: 21-speed twist-shifters with Shimano® rear derailleur
Brakes: Front and rear linear pull brakes
Wheels: Alloy rims

Recently, when I start to pedal it seems like the chain jumps or skips. Do you or can you post a video about what it is that causes this and how to fix.

Thanks in advance,
Kris

I follow u on Twitter but this is my first time watching one of your videos, it’s great! What a great resource.

What chains do you recommend for electric-assist cargo bikes? Are there chains designed for this use specifically?
I was going to order a Wipperman stainless chain, left to my own devices…
