Biky – A new premium kid’s bike brand

A new premium kid’s bike company out of California is gaining some buzz, Biky Bikes. Is it all marketing, or will they give Woom and Prevelo some competition?

I first heard about Biky when their balance bike, outfitted with colored LEDs and GPS tracking, won awards at iF Design. That may have been a one-off bike, as I do not see it available to buy now.

When I contacted the company to learn more, their team was very friendly and immediately sent out a 16″ model. I unboxed the bike last week, and my initial impressions are below. Looking through the line and comparing prices to Woom and Prevelo kid’s bikes, I do not see a huge standout advantage of going with Biky. In fact, I see more drawbacks to their products than advantages.

Spec Concerns

Quick thoughts as I went through the website:

• The balance bike doesn’t have any brakes, which I find to be very important as a child transitions into their first pedal bike
• The 16″ doesn’t have a front-hand brake
• The 20″ doesn’t have any gears
• Where did the cool GPS/LED light-up balance bike go?

In Closing

I’ll add the Biky kids’ bikes to the directory this week, and I have a few different families testing out the Biky 16 against the Woom 3. I was very excited about this brand when I found the iF design award, but now I’m wondering where it fits in the premium lightweight kid’s bike market. If you have one, can you let us know what you think?
