The Riese & Muller Multitinker is the brand’s take on a compact midtail cargo bike. 20″ wheels, front suspension, and some premium standout features unavailable on most midtail bikes as of May 2024.
Transport 2 children with a max of 154 lbs / 70 kg with 2 child seats, a passenger kit, or the Safety Bar Kit. Riese & Muller even have an off-road “GX” package to swap the tires for a Schwalbe Smart Sam Plus tire.
This model is the Multitinker touring with Shimano 1×10 derailleur drivetrain. It is slightly more affordable and 2 pounds lighter than the Multitinker vario. The vario model will have an Enviolo internal continuously variable hub and belt drive, making it very low maintenance and easy to shift at a stop.

We’ve had our multitinker for a year and have put about a thousand km on it. So far the bike has been great, it’s super well thought out (little cubby for the chain etc., accessories are versatile, easy to share between riders). We have installed the Bosch connect module on it for peace of mind, and that came with a little caveat, we had to buy a separate motor cover since the stock one would not work.
Otherwise, this thing is a tank, it carried me and my partner, me and my two kids, hauled a ton of groceries, etc. The belt is fantastic and maintenance is low.
If you want to secure it for a long time in a city it’s harder to do with a U-lock than the Tern GSD, but it’s not been a problem for us, we just lock it through the rear rack with a U-lock and we also lock it with the chain and the cafe lock.
I prefer the new Bosch system to what is currently equipped on the GSD.
I wish it would be easier to stand it up like the GSD for winter storage.
I really think this and the GSD are great bikes, functionnaly nearly identical, but I think the R&M has a better build quality and feels a bit more premium.
