What’s your name and location?

Nicola Cranmer, California today!

What type of cycling do you enjoy?

My passion is mountain biking but I appreciate and enjoy all disciplines.

What is your first cycling memory?

It was in England I dont remember my age, my dad was running along side of me holding the bike and he let go, I will never forget that moment of riding without stabilizers. At the time of course i did not know where that bike would really take me, the bike is my life and I LOVE it.

Who inspires you to ride, and better yet WHY?

Many people inspire me to ride, Kristin Armstrong inspires me to be better, my friend Pete has brain cancer, the bike represents freedom to him, he loves it, it makes him feel good, he inspires me to appreciate my health and that i can jump on my bike anytime. I’m inspired by anyone that is enthusiastic and passionate about riding bikes.

What has been your best moment on the bike so far this year?

Being a team owner and general manager, riding the bike is not always my priority. Two recent rides that stand out for me were Mount Wilson it was a mental decompression ride which includes an 18 mile climb and we all know what that means..18 mile descent! Beautiful day, excellent company. The second was the Dempsey Challenge in Maine which raised over $1 million for the Patrick Dempsey Center for cancer hope & healing. Very inspiring to ride with cancer survivors. Also any time I throw my leg over my mountain bike is a great moment!

Felt ZW road bike, its super sexy and very quick, descends really well too! Im actually going to get a new mountain bike, Felt makes some really sweet bikes and its a toss up between a dual suspension and a 29″ hardtail, i’m more inclined to go hardtail. I also have a Felt CX bike. I have an old cruiser with a kick back brake.

Who inspires you to ride, and better yet WHY?

Those who have accomplished greatness. It’s a reminder that you can accomplish the unthinkable with the right focus, talent, and determination.

What has been your best moment on the bike so far this year?

So many as it’s been an incredible first year for me. I would say winning my first NRC race for Team TIBCO during Speedweek. A close second would be placing 2nd to my teammate and world champion, Tara Whitten, at the Tour de Toona prologue. We talked for hours the night before about our goals and struggles in cycling, and it was the perfect cherry on top to place right next to each other.

I ride the Specialized S-Works Amira equipped with SRAM red components, Reynolds wheels, Control Tech handlebars and seat post, and Look Keo pedals. With all this bling, it seriously corners and descends like it’s on rails–the handicap in this situation is me! I can’t wait until my skills catch up with the bike’s capabilities :)

Lisa Hunt has been a fixture in women’s road racing for as long as I can remember. Either racing, directing or motivating. Earlier this year she was honored by the Redlands Classic, I believe the words from Podium Insight really sum her up.

Hunt has tirelessly devoted her time and energy to better her team and women cycling in general. She is the consummate teammate, always generous, always looking to better the cycling community. The award was presented before the Beaver Medical Group Sunset Road Race, which was the last stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic.

What’s your name and location?

Ann Groninger, Charlotte NC

What type of cycling do you enjoy?

Any kind on two wheels – road, mountain, commuting,..etc.

What is your first cycling memory?

I refused to let my dad hold the bike when I was learning to ride. He is still crushed, he says. As a kid I went everywhere on my bike.

Who inspires you to ride, and better yet WHY?

I’m inspired by local bike shop owners who give up so much of their own time on the bike not just to further their businesses but also to make cycling better for everyone. I’m also inspired by so many community activists who channel their love of cycling into good deeds – Trips for Kids, the Dirt Divas and the Recyclery, for example.

What has been your best moment on a bike this year?

This is such a hard question because I’m always happy on my bike! I loved riding the Blue Ridge Parkway recently with bikelaw.com, Black Bear Adventures and some great friends – old and new. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I love riding along the light rail with my 2 year old in his i-bert seat. His excitement about everything around him is contagious.

In the next year, what are your goals with cycling and pushing yourself forward?

After years and years of riding for fun, utility and a little racing, I think I’d like to get stronger and race a little more…maybe cyclocross? I also want to continue and expand the community work I’m involved in. Bikes make communities better.
