Motivational Monday with Jen Charrette

Motivational Monday Jen

What’s your name and location?

Jen Charrette

What type of cycling do you enjoy?

Everything, but mountain biking is my passion.

What is your first cycling memory?

It was my first big outing with my parents. I was maybe 8 and we were riding on a highway overpass and I fell off the sidewalk and into the lane of traffic. I was okay but banged up. My parents took my over to get ice cream and all was good.

Who inspires you to ride, and better yet WHY?

Most of my motivation to ride comes internally. I love the sport and the way it makes me feel. But I have to say that as a Mom of a 6 year old that is obsessed with riding he nudges me when needed.

What has been your best moment on the bike so far this year?

I just got back from a week in Tucson getting in some base road miles. It was in the 70s and I got 200 miles in… so it is looking like a great year for biking.

This month’s Motivational Monday posts are brought to you by one of my personal favorites, Light & Motion. Between now and the end of June, Light & Motion wants to know who or what in the cycling community motivates  you. All you have to do us leave a comment here or on Light & Motions’ Facebook page. At the end of the month we’ll be choosing one lucky winner to score a brand new VIS 360 commuter light!

I am very excited about this weeks Motivational Monday.  It took some prodding, and she may have been clueless of why she was answering the questions but I bring you the person I refer to often as my better half.  Kimberlee Welsand.  She personally keeps me motivated, and inspired daily.  I can easily say without her this past fall after my accident – there would be no bike shop girl. I would have become someone else, but not a cyclist.  One of my larger goals for 2011 is to get her back on the bike as often as possible following a horrible ankle/foot trauma.

Podcast Episode #2 : Q&A with Team Vera Bradley Foundation

This past Wednesday, I made my way to Uptown Charlotte, NC to visit Uptown Cycles where the shop was hosting Team Vera Bradley Foundation Pro Cycling Team. The three members from the team, Alison Powers and Kristin Sanders, were in town for wind tunnel testing and the owner of Uptown Cycles, as well as pro cyclist and team member, Robin Farina, decided to host a Question and Answer panel with a few of the ladies.

Now sit back, and learn what these amazing women are doing for the cycling arena.  If you are so inclined after the podcast to make a donation to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer research please visit VeraBradley.org

Due to the large room and semi circle of women, the audio isn’t the best but I’ve tried to level out audio and add comments here and there.
