It has been over a week since updating you about my 30 days of biking challenge, so here is a quick update.
Day 1 : A 19 mile road ride
Day 2: A daily commute of 5 miles to Davidson, NC – take the bus from there to Charlotte and then a mile commute. In the evening I reversed it
Day 3: I only did the end of day commute, riding the bus completely stinks and makes me feel that I’m in a 14 ton coffin. Avoided it for the past week.
Day 4: em:pwr cycling lunch time group ride and then the bus/commute home.
Day 5: A early morning mountain bike ride before work.
Day 6: Rode my mountain bike into the weekend by knocking out 12 miles after work on the singlespeed 29er. I also scurried home to build up the new Airborne Goblin 29er.
Day 7: A shake down mountain bike ride at Lake Norman State Park. Adjusting my cock pit, getting used to gears and suspension
Day 8: A 28 mile road ride on the 29er mtb for fit and adjustment reason
Day 9: 7 mile afterwork mountain bike ride
Day 10: Built up a friends new Airborne Goblin, tweaked his new Stevens cyclocross bike and test spun around.
Day 11: (Today) Changing out some bits on my Goblin and beating it up around the block.
I mentioned over this weekend my goal of getting back in to commuting. To try commuting for the first time since my accident in October. That is a super long time to be off the commuting habit! This past Monday was Day 2 of the 30 days of biking, a great day to try bike commuting. What better day then today?
A 6 mile ride to Davidson, NC, then an hour long bus ride, and then the mile to work from the bus station. The mile through Charlotte was my worry, stupid ass drivers cutting me off and putting the fear of death in me. One commute in, work and then it was time to ride home. The ride home was going to be the kicker, this is the time I was hit. I had to ride THROUGH the intersection, I had to pass my skid mark. I made it through, freaking out the whole way.
There is so much for me to write to get the feelings and thoughts out but now isn’t the time and I’m not there yet. I commuted again today (Day 3 of 30days) and will be writing up the experience in the morning. There is still a good amount of mental milage to make up and I hope I’m strong enough to do it.
During April there was a little event called 30 Days of Biking. The goal was to get your butt on a bike during the 30 days of April. A wrench was thrown into my gears during April quickly and I didn’t get nearly all the 30 days (or half of it.) I’m making my own version of 30 Days of Biking in May, everyday a bike ride, everyday a new adventure.
Starting the 30 days of biking off with an easy spin. 19.93 miles, a normal loop from my house that I’ve enjoyed over the past few years. Given the fact I hadn’t been on the road bike in a couple weeks, I felt great and was excited to feel that good!!! I mentally was trying to get back in the feel of things as the next day, Monday, my goal was to try commuting by bike again.

April marks many things. April fools, spring showers, flowers, bike racing, major league baseball and many other things. It also marks the month of biking. 30 days of biking to be exact.
30 Days of Biking
The only rule for 30 Days of Biking, April 1–30, 2011, is that you bike every day for 30 days—around the block, 20 miles to work, whatever suits you—then share your adventures online. We believe biking enriches life, builds community, and preserves the Earth.

How We are Getting Involved
This is something I find very exciting and I’m glad to participate. The guys behind 30 days of biking have an amazing idea in place, hopefully we can inspire more butts on bikes!
Some examples of how I’ll be getting on the bike… today I’ll run to the bike shop 3 miles from work on bike bike. Tomorrow I’m racing. Sunday I’ll do a recovery ride. During the week if I can’t do a true ride, I’ll do my errands around work on my bike. Even if its a bike ride down the greenway to take photos. Do it, I promise every time you stretch your legs around those pedals turning, you’re body and soul will thank you.
