Motivational Monday with Amy Thomas of Yeti Betis
Amy is a dear friend of mine here in Colorado. She is doing amazing things for women’s cycling with the women’s mountain bike team, Yeti Beti, and the all women’s mountain bike event, Beti Bike Bash.
What is your name and location?
Amy Thomas, Lakewood Colorado
What type of cycling do you enjoy?
Singletrack, the chunkier, the better!
What is your first cycling memory?
Riding my big wheel in the driveway. It was a circular driveway with a downhill and an uphill. I’d go as fast as I could on the downhill to try to get as far as I could on the uphill. My mom would let me ride for hours, like a little hamster on a wheel.
Knowing Amy, this explains everything!
Who inspires you to ride? Better yet, why?
My friend Trish Downing has been an inspiration since her accident in 2000. She was severely injured (T4 spinal cord injury) and can longer walk, but has done amazing things as a Challenged Athlete from wheelchair marathons, Ironman, and rowing. She now helps other women with spinal cord injuries to discover they can still be active via her Camp Discovery.
WHY? I ride because I can.
What has been your best moment on the bike so far this year?
Riding technical lines that I haven’t been able to before. We cleaned some fun singletrack in Grand Junction that I previously walked. I love the challenge of overcoming my fear of drops and scary rocks.
Tell us what you ride
All YETI all the time.
ARC carbon 29 inch hardtail
SB66 carbon 26 inch full suspension.
