Specialized Rumor Review

Preview: Specialized Rumor 29er Full Suspension

It is a rewarding time as a woman that loves bikes. More styles of bikes are being released, especially in the full suspension trail category. Specialized came out swinging with the Rumor, a 110mm travel 29er bike. This bike will be for the girl that loves to climb but wants to rip down whatever their trail has to offer.

Reasons why I’m excited for this new bike to hit market

• Shorter front end, which should provide better balance and front end handling
• Pretty low stand over for Small model (706mm)
• Well spec’d
• More options for women growing in the sport
• Carbon in the future? (maybe?!)

I test rode a Rumor today. Although I felt comfortable on the bike, it was still very heavy (feels as heavy as my 2005 Specialized XC FSR which is 30.4lbs). Not sure about this one, but it is probably a great entry into the FSR market for women who ride big mountains.
I’m more of an XC rider/racer and looking to upgrade. Testing the Specialized Jett tomorrow. No Fates in the LBS, would have to order but that is the one I am really ogling!

Which model did you try out? Have you tried a Lush or any of the new Juliana’s?

It was the base model Rumor. It was comfy, but I felt like I was “in” the bike, and coming from a road racing background, I was much more comfortable on a hardtail, being more “over” the bike.
Didn’t really give it a fair chance – didn’t get onto any technical terrain. As soon as I compared it to my current FSR, I wrote it off as too similar.
