Introduction of the Cateye TL-LD570 Reflex Auto Light

3 Flares 3 Flares ×

We recently received the Cateye TL-LD570 Reflex Auto Light and it quickly was installed on the rear of my Salsa Casseroll.  Our initial spin around the block gave the impression that this rectangle of a light is bright, and the reflector works wonderfully.  Something I didn’t realize I was missing in a light.

For now the light is mounted on the Salsa Casseroll seat tube but long term will be mounted and tested out on a rear rack.  The light looks very much like a rear reflector, very little styling but it gets the job done.  In fact, I enjoy that it looks like a boring over-sized reflector as it may not be stolen due to this!

Once we get longer rides and feedback from cars behind, I’ll check back in with a better, true, review.

  • I got one of these for my commuter. I lost my Trek light in the summer on a trip on the C&O Canal. Actually I think it probably came off while being hauled to Maryland.

I really like the Cateye. I use it as the steady light mounted to the rear rack. It mounts very securely. I agreement it with a Planet Bike Super Flash on the seat post in flashing mode. Having both has two advantages: (1) flashing to get people’s attention, steady gives driver’s better depth perception as they approach you, (2) two lights gives me a backup if one goes out.

My main complaint is turning on the Cateye without getting in the light sensor/motion mode. I do a mixed mode commute, driving the 4 miles closest to my house. In automatic mode, the Cateye will come on while on the back of the car in the dark. I think I just need to read the instructions again and make sure of the sequence from off to automatic to manual.
